Civil society activists from 21 countries across Africa have pledged to intensify the fight against Israel's apartheid practices against Palestinian, isolate Israel in the same way that apartheid South Africa was sanctioned and work to have Israel's accreditation to the African Union revoked, the Afro-Palestine Newswire Service reported. The decision came during the Pan-African Palestine Solidarity Network (PAPSN) meeting in the Senegalese capital, Dakar, over the weekend. Delegates discussed how Israel had undermined Africa's long-standing support of the Palestinian liberation struggle by supplying weapons, military hardware and surveillance technologies to repressive African governments. The Palestinian Union of Social Workers and Psychologists has issued a formal statement earlier this week condemning the decision of the International Association for Relational Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy (IARPP) to hold its 2019 annual conference in Israel. In December 2017, an international group of mental health clinicians requested that the IARPP reconsider that plan, but IARPP refused. In January 2018, three organizations, the USA-Palestine Mental Health Network, the UK-Palestine Mental Health Network, and Jewish Voice for Peace then launched a petition signed by 1400 mental health professionals worldwide protesting the IARPP plan to meet in Israel. This Saturday, 29th September, Middle East Monitor (MEMO) will host a group of international speakers in central London at a Conference exploring the legacy of the Oslo Accords. The 1995 signing of the Oslo Accords in Washington DC was supposed to pave the way toward a final settlement of the Palestine-Israel conflict. Now 25 years on the final settlement has not been reached, Palestinians have not achieved their independence and statehood and the Israelis have failed to realise their exclusive and democratic Jewish state, with a Jewish majority. Palestine Book Awards 2016 - Shortlist Announced

Middle East Monitor are pleased to announce the books shortlisted for the Palestine Book Awards 2016. The award, now in its fifth year, is an annual project that honours and celebrates books in English about Palestine. It is equally an attempt to encourage authors and publishers to create more fine books on Palestine. It has been another successful year with a total of 40 books submitted for consideration. The shortlist books selected by the judges have truly added to the diverse selection of submissions this year, adding to the mix of genres forwarding the Palestinian narrative. The Times apologises for 'anti-Semitism' suggestion against MEMO editor

The Times in London has printed an apology for an article published on 2 May, in which it was implied that MEMO's senior editor is "anti-Semitic". The newspaper accepted that the suggestion in the article by Rosa Prince "was incorrect" and that Ibrahim Hewitt "is not and never has been anti-Semitic." Reference to Hewitt has been removed from the online version of the article in question. The apology added that the Times is "happy to put this on record and apologise to him for any distress caused." Hewitt has faced a number of attempts by the right-of-centre media in Britain to cast him as both an "anti-Semite" and "extremist", especially since the so-called "Trojan horse" fiasco in 2014 and the […]

MEMO photographer Mohammed Asad's photo of Dalia Khalifa won an award last week at a competition organised by the UN. "Unbreakable" – is the photo of nine-year-old Dalia Khalifa, taken at Al-Shifa Hospital on 9 August 2014. Dalia was badly injured in an Israeli air strike during "Operation Protective Edge". "Unbreakable" was the Grand Jury Winner in the photography competition, organised by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in the Middle East and North Africa (UN OCHA). During "Operation Protective Edge", Asad's home in Shujaiyeh was bombed and destroyed by Israeli forces. He and his family were unharmed.

The International Palestine Conference comes to a close

The International Palestine Conference on media and communications was held in Istanbul on April 23-24, 2014, and was attended by over 400 international media personalities and organisations. The conference was held to address the growing need to find a framework for joint communication, coordination and interaction between media outlets in order to better serve the Palestinian cause. There is an increasing necessity to face the attempts to weaken the cause and isolate it from its Arab and Islamic depth as well as its humanitarian dimension and exclude it from the media attention.
